Cool Idea: Using People as Search Engines

October 30, 2008 by: Matt Howard

I had a chat today with Scott Gavin a friend of mine and a really smart enterprise 2.0 evangelist.

He told me about a new knowledge management and enterprise social search platform that he recently helped launch.  It's called Knowledge Plaza and it's backed by the guys at Whatever (love the name).

As a former Groove guy and a huge fan of Ray Ozzie's I am always interested in learning about new and innovative collaboration applications.

KP is definitely new and innovative and if you get a moment, I would recommend that you take a look.  I especially love the concept of using people that you know and trust as a proxy for contextualizing traditional searches through Google, Yahoo, etc.

The idea is simple.  Let's suppose I still worked for Microsoft and i wanted to do a search on cloud computing.  I could go to Ray's profile and could execute a web search in a heightened context "through Ray's eyes".
